How do I convert an image to PDF online?

The fastest way is a browser-based converter, because it works on any phone or computer and needs nothing installed. With our JPG to PDF converter (or PNG to PDF) the whole job takes four steps:

  1. Upload one or more images. You can pick files, drag them onto the page or paste a link to an image.
  2. Choose PDF as the output format in the dropdown next to each image.
  3. Set the page: "Same as image" keeps the picture at its own proportions, while A4 and US Letter fit it onto a standard sheet with optional margins.
  4. Convert and download. A single image downloads straight away; several images can be downloaded as a ZIP or merged into one PDF.

Start from the image to PDF converter page. Everything above happens on that one page.

How do I combine several images into one PDF?

Add all your images, set each one to PDF and tick Combine all images into one PDF. Each image becomes one page, in the same order as the list on the page. This is the usual way to turn photos of a document, receipts, or a scanned contract into a single file you can email.

If a page is in the wrong order, remove the images and add them again in the order you need. The PDF follows the order of the list.

Which PDF page size should I choose?

SettingBest forWhat happens
Same as imageScreens, sharing, artworkThe page has the proportions of your picture, with no white borders.
A4Printing in most countriesThe image is scaled to fit an A4 sheet (210 x 297 mm) and centered.
US LetterPrinting in the US and CanadaThe image is scaled to fit an 8.5 x 11 inch sheet and centered.

With A4 or Letter you can also pick Auto, Portrait or Landscape orientation and a margin of none, small (about 10 mm) or big (about 20 mm). In Auto mode, wide pictures get a landscape page and tall pictures a portrait page.

Does converting an image to PDF lower the quality?

A normal JPG is placed in the PDF exactly as it is, so there is no extra quality loss. Other formats, such as PNG or WEBP, are stored inside the PDF as a high-quality JPEG. At that quality the difference is normally not visible, and transparent areas become white, which is how they look on a PDF page anyway.

How do I make the PDF smaller?

Large phone photos make large PDFs. Turn on Resize and/or Compress before converting:

  • Resize to a width of 1600 to 2000 px for a clear full-page picture, or 1200 px for screen-only reading.
  • Compress with the "Balanced" preset (quality 75) for a big size drop that is hard to see by eye.

You can read more about shrinking pictures in our guide to the image converter and its formats.

Can I convert an image to PDF without a website?

Yes. Both major desktop systems can do it, although with less control:

  • Windows: open the picture in Photos, choose Print, then select Microsoft Print to PDF as the printer.
  • Mac: open the picture in Preview and choose File > Export as PDF. To merge several pictures, select their thumbnails in the Preview sidebar first.
  • iPhone and Android: use the Print option in the share menu and save the result as a PDF.

An online converter is faster when you have many images, want to pick the page size, or need to combine them and reduce the file size in one go.
